July 17 – Sending an Invitation by Chris Lillehei
We need to talk… What does being a part of the Jacob’s Well community mean to the world around us? Do you share your Jacob’s Well experience with others? If not, why not? What would it look like if we shared the news about Jacob’s Well without pause or hesitation? We are often comfortable telling people about the movies that we love or the books that have impacted us greatly, but sometimes are hesitant to talk about what we experience on Sunday morning or in GroupLife. If this community is a place we value, isn’t it worth sharing with those in our communities? It is worth taking some time to talk about how and why we should have conversations about Jacob’s Well because it matters.

July 3 – Making Peace with Distractions: We need to talk… Meditation is all the rage these days, but it’s just for calm people who have quiet houses and unbusy lives, right? Or maybe it will make our lives more like that peaceful Zen ideal… The reality is that the best mindfulness and meditation happens in the midst of your reality! Stephanie Vos shared these thoughts and practices at the Minnehaha Falls Bandstand. Maybe you need practice staying centered in a world that’s constantly spinning too.

We need to talk… We all know that stress can kill us. But what if we have gotten stress all wrong? What if avoiding stress is actually more dangerous to our health and happiness than embracing stress? In this conversation we’ll talk about how modern science and ancient wisdom pretty much see eye-to-eye on the hidden–and too often neglected–power of stress. Check out this great talk from Jacob's Well native and local thought leader Nick Tasler.

Conversations that Matter 2: Curating Safe Spaces 06.26.2016
Monday Jun 27, 2016
Monday Jun 27, 2016
Laura Schmidt and Mike Rusert are here to have an important conversation about what it means to curate safe spaces for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, especially in the wake of the mass shooting that took place in Orlando on June 12. Night clubs, such as Pulse, provide safety, community, and sanctuary for many members of the LGBTQ community, while churches have historically failed to meet those needs. We will lead a conversation on ways in which we as “people who don’t like church” can be better allies to our LGBTQ friends and family.

Conversations That Matter 1: The Masks We Live In 06.19.2016

Sunday Jun 19, 2016
June 19 – The Masks We Live In: We need to talk… about the masks we live in. We spend so much time creating and maintaining our self image – but what’s behind that? Church needs to be a place where we can set all of that striving aside, and help each other find and live into our own authenticity.

Being Church - 3: Local

June 12: Local (at Minnehaha Falls)- An important part of being church for us is that where we are church together should reflect who we are as church together; maybe that’s why being at Minnehaha Falls feels like such a great place to be church. There’s more to being local as Jacob’s Well, though. It also means that what grows here, should be used here. Let’s take a look at what it means to escape the otherworldliness of church and keep our message and purpose local to our lives and our community.

Being Church: Fresh
Being Church is a whole new ballgame. Yes, we need stability and some things not to change while everything else is chaos; and that’s what you get when ‘church’ is a building or an hour you spend once a week. But when we are the church, stability and security happen very differently. These things are found in the community that stays with you as life changes. It’s dependable relevancy, not repetition that keeps current with what your life is about today. Fresh!
