LifeSize: Bite Size
Sunday Mar 24, 2013
Sunday Mar 24, 2013
One of the great affronts of Jesus is that he might actually be God. (It's nearly as offensive as calling Jesus "Bite Size God." Hope we don't get in too much trouble for that!) Most other faiths can't stand this claim and most people find it absurd. Yet while how Jesus was God may be beyond our comprehension, the fact that he was is critically important to his message. Bite Size God isn't meant to be a test of faith, but a bridge to the furthest reaches of our lives. Jesus born. Jesus among us. Jesus dying. Jesus living. Jesus with us.

LifeSize: Supersize Me
Monday Mar 18, 2013
Monday Mar 18, 2013
We all want to be supersized. So what does that mean? In our society we often think being supersizedmeans we need to make a big splash. Sometimes that might be the case, but really in order to besupersized, you need to be "-ity" bitty. It is when you discover your identity in God, when in vulnerability you get in over your head, and when you serve others in humility that you are actually supersized. That is not what the world tells us. In fact, it's just the opposite. What's that about? Let's explore these "-ity" bitty ideas together.

Gungor - God is not a white man
I can't tell you a lot of specifics about God, at least not with any certainty, but I can tell you what I believe - what I hope to be true - about God, and that's as much as anyone can tell you. We each possess, in our being, some combination of beautiful experiences and troubling questions that have led to our unique understanding of God. Throughout human history, God has been understood to be many different things to people, and while we may believe God is big enough to satisfy most/all of those beliefs, it requires personal faith to also believe God is personal enough to know and love each of us. As the great Scandinavian theologians Ole and Sven used to say, "uff da!"

LifeSize: Size Matters
Sunday Mar 03, 2013
Sunday Mar 03, 2013
Some people say they believe in God, some say they don't, others say they're not sure. I'm less interested in which camp you are in, and more interested in what you mean when you say, 'God.' I don't believe in a god that is as little and narrow as some people seem to, and I can't believe in a god as big and tyrannical as other people describe. I long for and live for a LifeSize God who is big enough to matter and small enough for me to matter. It's complicated... Let's talk about it.

Jacob's Epilogue
Monday Feb 25, 2013
Monday Feb 25, 2013
It's still Jacob's story, but the story isn't about him anymore, it's about his daughter, Dinah, and about his sons, and one in particular, Joseph. It's about Shechem and Egypt. The time came when the picture was obviously a lot bigger than Jacob. Not because it had to fit more people in, but because it was God's picture all along, not Jacob's. Is the world the backdrop of your life? Or is your life one irreplaceable piece of the big, big picture of what God is doing in the world?

Jacob's Journey Home
Monday Feb 18, 2013
Monday Feb 18, 2013
It's time to come home. Twenty years abroad gave him much, but for what? It's time to go home, deal with his brother and become who the person this journey was all about in the first place. Sometimes we go and learn, explore and discover, and we learn it wasn't about all the learning and getting, but the learning and getting was preparing us for what's next. Head home, cross the river, meet God - face to face.

Jacob Abroad
Monday Feb 11, 2013
Monday Feb 11, 2013
Jacob has some becoming to do and it isn't going to happen at home. He tricked his brother Esau and he's in trouble with him. He needs to leave his promised land to find what's next. Even though his purpose seems to be to get married, the journey leads to much more. Jacob gets married, has a lot of kids and gets rich. He tricks and gets tricked. As we walk through this part of Jacob's crazy journey with him, we find out how God kept God's promises to him and how God keeps promises to us through our life's journeys, even when our journey is different than we ever thought it would be.

Jacob Begins
Monday Feb 04, 2013
Monday Feb 04, 2013
"What's next" isn't a question, it's your next step. So what will you do? The book of Genesis tells the story of Jacob and how he was part of God's 'what's next.' This not-so-heroic hero was a mixture of destiny, decisions and deception... as well as utter grace. This February we will trace Jacob's story (Genesis 25-35) and see how God worked in, through and despite him, and get some clues about how God works in, through and despite us to create 'what's next'.
