Influence: Want to Influence Others? Try Modeling Integrity.
Sunday Apr 28, 2013
Sunday Apr 28, 2013
You have been tempted, as have I, to gain influence by compromising something about yourself: little bits of advantage in situations, truth and relationships that you can exploit and leverage. Jesus talked about "gaining the world and losing yourself." Maybe he knew something. Maybe there is something to be said for not compromising yourself for easy gain, but focusing yourself for lasting impact. Author, consultant and Jacob's Well-er, Nick Tasler, will join me in talking about integrity and the influence it has when we model it for others. See you Sunday. ~Greg

Influence: Want to Influence Others? Try Encouraging Them.
Wednesday Apr 24, 2013
Wednesday Apr 24, 2013
Think you could do something extraordinary? Something most people doubt you could do? Well, you can. We'd see you through it until you did it. Influence isn't about what we do to others, it's what we do for others, and one of the most powerful things we can do is encourage. Brad Hofbauer from Team World Vision takes people who have no idea what they are capable of and helps them accomplish more than they ever imagined. He'll be joining me Sunday and you won't believe what is going to happen when we dissect this creature 'encouragement.' See you. ~Greg

Influence: Want to Influence Others? Try Serving Them.
Sunday Apr 14, 2013
Sunday Apr 14, 2013
You influence others by your actions, and by your inaction. You may "dress to impress", try to have more things or speak louder to try to influence others. But when you think about it, some of your greatest influence comes through the humble act of serving not impressing people. Influencing by Impressing actually distances you from others, and when you are far away, it's hard to influence. Serving gets you up close and personal. And up close and personal is where stuff really starts to happen. Sound counter-intuitive and maybe a little uncomfortable? Let's talk about it.

Influence: You have it, what are you going to do with it?

The video shown near the end of the message has been edited out of the podcast.
One of the things we all have to own up to is that fact that we are capable of, and indeed have great influence. Whether or not we have some isn't the question. The question you need to ask yourself is, 'what am I doing with it?' It's personal. It's you and your life and your part in shaping your relationships, your environment, the world. Yeah, it's a big responsibility. But don't panic, it isn't your job alone, and you aren't expected to get it all right. If you think God, faith and that sort of stuff is important, then this is essential. Let's talk.

Easter: Larger Than Life
Sunday Mar 31, 2013
Sunday Mar 31, 2013
This Sunday is the day people all around the world celebrate and try to wrap their heads around the idea that God is alive and well, still at work in and through us. It’s how God got larger than life. That’s not a comment about how big Jesus was, it isn’t about how legendary his story has become, it’s about what he has done for you. Your life is more than you think. The dead ends that loom aren’t as absolute as you imagine. Not sure about all that? All the more reason to join us!

LifeSize: Bite Size
Sunday Mar 24, 2013
Sunday Mar 24, 2013
One of the great affronts of Jesus is that he might actually be God. (It's nearly as offensive as calling Jesus "Bite Size God." Hope we don't get in too much trouble for that!) Most other faiths can't stand this claim and most people find it absurd. Yet while how Jesus was God may be beyond our comprehension, the fact that he was is critically important to his message. Bite Size God isn't meant to be a test of faith, but a bridge to the furthest reaches of our lives. Jesus born. Jesus among us. Jesus dying. Jesus living. Jesus with us.

LifeSize: Supersize Me
Monday Mar 18, 2013
Monday Mar 18, 2013
We all want to be supersized. So what does that mean? In our society we often think being supersizedmeans we need to make a big splash. Sometimes that might be the case, but really in order to besupersized, you need to be "-ity" bitty. It is when you discover your identity in God, when in vulnerability you get in over your head, and when you serve others in humility that you are actually supersized. That is not what the world tells us. In fact, it's just the opposite. What's that about? Let's explore these "-ity" bitty ideas together.

The opening song from the message is not included in this audio. If you want to see the video go to:
Gungor - God is not a white man
I can't tell you a lot of specifics about God, at least not with any certainty, but I can tell you what I believe - what I hope to be true - about God, and that's as much as anyone can tell you. We each possess, in our being, some combination of beautiful experiences and troubling questions that have led to our unique understanding of God. Throughout human history, God has been understood to be many different things to people, and while we may believe God is big enough to satisfy most/all of those beliefs, it requires personal faith to also believe God is personal enough to know and love each of us. As the great Scandinavian theologians Ole and Sven used to say, "uff da!"
