Pastors and Surgeons Chris Lillehei, our site host and a seminary student, fits the pastor column. His dad, Craig, just happens to be a Pediatric Surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital and faculty at Harvard Medical School. He practices science at it and that hasn’t made him give up on God or faith, it has clarified it for him. Listen in and hear what pastors and surgeons have in common.

Melissa Lock and Chris Tripolino go bananas for some of the ways that we can get beyond the "single story;" the simplistic view of the people around us that inspires little more than judgement and annoyance. Don't judge a...banana by its peel. You might find something truly amazing. 

Galaxies and Big Stuff No matter what you think, you have nooooo idea what big is. Big is… well, BIG! We’ll get to that in the message. But just realizing how unrealizable big big is isn’t a good enough reason to show up this morning, so we’re going to stop and think about what it means to be the puny things we are in this gut wrenchingly big universe. It’s actually good stuff. Really. So put on your safety goggles and lab coat and we’ll see what we can learn about us and the universe.

There is a new depth and richness that can be found when science and religion play their respective roles well.

Science Class - Disease and Ideas
Science and Religion are at battle with one another. The funny thing is that God doesn’t know about it! Science isn’t the undoing of God, it’s understanding what God is about. This month we are going to science class to see some of the surprising insights that help us learn about ourselves and the world. Like what can we learn about how ideas spread from studying disease. We only want you to spread one of those, by the way.

LIFE CYCLES: MORE THAN REMEMBERING - Happy Memorial Day! This day is a time to remember those who died in active military service. As a nation we don’t do so well at it. We mostly use it as a 3-day weekend before summer kicks in. Birth, life, death. We have a lot of growing to do in all three parts of this progression, but death is the toughest for us. Today we celebrate the new lives of Elijah & Amelia, and gather around the table of life that connects us. We will look into what more than remembering there is around what we lose. They are more a part of the same thing than you might imagine.

Happy Mother’s Day! This is one of those complicated days celebrating what is most wonderful, and for some, most painful about life. But we share, at least, that we all have mothers. We also all share the rhythm of giving birth and letting go; another source of joy and pain.
