Slipping on Banana Peels - Leftovers Podcast
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
Melissa Lock and Chris Tripolino go bananas for some of the ways that we can get beyond the "single story;" the simplistic view of the people around us that inspires little more than judgement and annoyance. Don't judge a...banana by its peel. You might find something truly amazing.

Galaxies & Big Stuff

Sunday Jun 18, 2017
Galaxies and Big Stuff No matter what you think, you have nooooo idea what big is. Big is… well, BIG! We’ll get to that in the message. But just realizing how unrealizable big big is isn’t a good enough reason to show up this morning, so we’re going to stop and think about what it means to be the puny things we are in this gut wrenchingly big universe. It’s actually good stuff. Really. So put on your safety goggles and lab coat and we’ll see what we can learn about us and the universe.

Science & Religion - Leftovers Podcast
Tuesday Jun 13, 2017
Tuesday Jun 13, 2017
As you keep up on politics, news, art, and culture, have you gotten the sense that science and God or religion or the Bible are irreconcilably opposed? We want to challenge the idea that you have to line up behind one of those 2 sides. There is a new depth and richness that can be found when science and religion play their respective roles well.
In this episode, Melissa, Greg, and Chris talk about some of the pitfalls and opportunites before us when science and spirituality share space.

Science Class - Disease and Ideas
Science and Religion are at battle with one another. The funny thing is that God doesn’t know about it! Science isn’t the undoing of God, it’s understanding what God is about. This month we are going to science class to see some of the surprising insights that help us learn about ourselves and the world. Like what can we learn about how ideas spread from studying disease. We only want you to spread one of those, by the way.

Life Cycles: More Than Remembering
Tuesday May 30, 2017
Tuesday May 30, 2017
LIFE CYCLES: MORE THAN REMEMBERING - Happy Memorial Day! This day is a time to remember those who died in active military service. As a nation we don’t do so well at it. We mostly use it as a 3-day weekend before summer kicks in. Birth, life, death. We have a lot of growing to do in all three parts of this progression, but death is the toughest for us. Today we celebrate the new lives of Elijah & Amelia, and gather around the table of life that connects us. We will look into what more than remembering there is around what we lose. They are more a part of the same thing than you might imagine.

Life Cycles: Now It's Your Turn
Sunday May 21, 2017
Sunday May 21, 2017
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN - Last week we explored the role of giving birth and letting go of what we created. This week we’ll explore what happens when you are the one released - when you discover it’s your turn to navigate life. This isn’t just a kid-become-adult thing, but the perpetual life cycle of being called to step up to the plate, take the baton, fill the shoes. Erin McGillivray, who has done her own “My turn now” discoveries and walked 100’s of Peace Corps Volunteers into their turns as changemakers, joined Greg in leading this conversation we all need

Life Cycles: Giving Birth & Letting Go
Monday May 15, 2017
Monday May 15, 2017
Happy Mother’s Day! This is one of those complicated days celebrating what is most wonderful, and for some, most painful about life. But we share, at least, that we all have mothers. We also all share the rhythm of giving birth and letting go; another source of joy and pain. Today Jacob’s Well-ers, Erin Tripolino, mother & birth doula, and Justin Ley, father & entrepreneur, joined Greg in talking about this key life process and paradox.

Square 1 - Back To Square 1 With Stuff
Sunday May 07, 2017
Sunday May 07, 2017
Back to Square 1 with stuff. Here’s a complicated question: What role do possessions play in your life? Here’s another: What role should possessions play in your life? Maybe the answers are so hard because they’re the wrong questions. Maybe this is a dead end in our lives that we need to work our way backwards from. Back at square 1 we can discover better questions. That won’t be easy either, but together we can take a look. Thanks for being part of the wrestling match with us
