Humanize: What Only You Can Do
Sunday Sep 17, 2017
Sunday Sep 17, 2017
If being compassionate just fit into our busy lives it would be so much easier. But like most truly human capacities it isn’t that convenient. Compassion asks us to dig deeply and make bigger choices than our calendars and the extra couple of dollars in our wallets. Compassion asks for you. So who are you? Not just what can you do, but what can only you do? Let’s talk about how we live into the compassion that expresses the depth of our humanity.

Humanize: The Battle for Your Humanity
Sunday Sep 10, 2017
Sunday Sep 10, 2017
Humanize - The Battle for Your Humanity Try out this idea: ‘Your capacity for compassion is the measure of your humanity.’ Think about that for a while and if you agree, then consider your life and priorities. Is there room for compassion? This is not a guilt thing, this is a growth thing. Compassion is hard. It is more than being tender hearted, but it’s not being a caped crusader fixing the world’s ills either. So what is it? This message talks about it and expands our hopes for our humanity along with it.

Feeling the knot of stress in your gut already as you try to figure out how are you going to balance it all this year? Ok, if Jacob’s Well’s job is to help us look at life in a bigger, 3rd sort of way, then we need it as we look at our fall schedule too. What if we were to tell you balance isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and that you don’t have to chase it? Interested?

GODFLIX: Hidden Figures
Sunday Aug 27, 2017
Sunday Aug 27, 2017
To Infinity…and Beyond! Hidden Figures is the untold true story of three black women who served as the brains behind NASA’s launch that put John Glenn into orbit. These women not only displayed incredible intelligence and tenacity, but challenged the racial and gender discrimination of their time. While the story took place over 50 years ago, the issues are still relevant. In the wake of Charlottesville, and so many other stories of hatred, ignorance, and discrimination, we have much to learn about ourselves and how to better recognize God in each other.

GODFLIX: Moana
Monday Aug 21, 2017
Monday Aug 21, 2017
Disney’s latest animated musical tells the story of Moana, a brave girl who dreams of sailing the ocean despite her father’s rule that “no one go beyond the reef.” Encouraged by her grandma to follow in the ways of their ancestors, she sets off on a journey to discover her true identity and save her village. This story illustrates the challenges of following our dreams and the need we all have for others to help us remember who we are.

Leftovers - Charlottesville
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
True confessions this week: We're still finding our way in how we address conversations about race and justice and we think we missed something big by letting Charlottesville get squeezed out of our conversation as a community. It's too important to not address together, so we're taking another crack at it in hopes of returning to conversations that we've had many times and finding new places that need addressing within the Jacob's Well community and well beyond it. Thanks for being the kind of community that can have these sustained conversations that are transforming how we see the world.
