Divided We Fall: Game Changer
Sunday Nov 05, 2017
Sunday Nov 05, 2017
Arguing is fun and all, but it doesn't really accomplish much. Sure, you might get a few zingers for the 'home' team, but you and your opponent often go home more sure of yourselves than you were at the start. We can't afford to go around in that forcing mindset, because it destroys relationships. So what is an effective way to talk with others about controversial topics? Today, we're talking about game changers, and how to apply them to our own lives.

Divided We Fall: The Power of Story to Unite
Monday Oct 30, 2017
Monday Oct 30, 2017
Polarized politics, racial divides, international standoffs. The split is so great it is infecting our families and friendships. Walls of disagreement separate us. Arguments drive the wedge deeper until the only people we know and listen to are the ones on our side. Maybe no one will ever win. What if we got beyond winning and tried understanding? What if we listened… deeply? Not to argue a point, but to get to know the person we always disagreed with. Our stories can do what our debates cannot.

The Inner Selfie: When All Else Fails
Monday Oct 23, 2017
Monday Oct 23, 2017
We’re all perfectly able to deal with what life throws at us until we get to what we aren’t prepared for. Obviously… When you hit your limit depends on the situation and the subject. You might move that point, subtract or add things from the ‘pushes me over the edge’ list, but you will never perfectly immunize yourself from what distracts, hurts, and frightens. So what will you do when all else fails? Let’s talk, let’s practice. There is life beyond success.

The Inner Selfie: Flooded, Forcing, Flowing
Sunday Oct 15, 2017
Sunday Oct 15, 2017
There is a miniature rapids I know called the riffle. It’s a point where one lake drains into another. Every year it confounds people who try to paddle against it, pushing them back, flooding their canoes, dumping them in the lake. However, there is an easier way to get through. I’ve seen people make it through with little effort. What have they figured out that I haven’t? How did they learn to go through it with such little effort?

The Inner Selfie: What's Going On In There?
Sunday Oct 08, 2017
Sunday Oct 08, 2017
Let’s face it, life is tough. Even with all the great stuff you experience everyday there are challenges swirling around you that knock you off your feet. That’s not going to change. What can change is your capacity for knowing how to be in a world like that. That won’t happen because you’ve solved all the chaos around you, but because you’ve made peace with all the chaos inside you. For starters we’ve got some things for you to think about and to try out today.

Humanize Leftovers: Commentary on Mark 6.30-44 Feeding the 5000
Saturday Sep 30, 2017
Saturday Sep 30, 2017
This excerpt from Sunday's message (9/24/2017) doesn't pretend to give us any answers for how to have compassion when the needs are too many, too far away, and too demanding, but it does show us a rhythm of compassion Jesus had that made him someone the world has never forgotten. Greg Meyer gives us some insights into one way to hear this story from Mark 6.30-44 of Jesus "feeding the 5000."

Humanize: A Fire and an Eyedropper
Sunday Sep 24, 2017
Sunday Sep 24, 2017
Humanize - A Fire and an Eyedropper Overwhelming is right! How can anyone deal with all the disasters, problems and hurt of the people they know, let alone what their Facebook feed and cable news shows them. Turning a blind eye helps us cope, but it seems to diminish our humanity at the same time. So what are we supposed to do with this world full of hurt? Well, we don’t have an answer for that, but we can say more than ‘give up.’ This is a conversation to have together. Thanks for being with us today.
Here are responses that we got from folks who were gathered at field for this message:

Humanize Leftovers: Cardboard Signs
Thursday Sep 21, 2017
Thursday Sep 21, 2017
Melissa, Chris, & Paul pick up the conversation from Sunday as we think about how compassion moves us toward action. We start this conversation with what our community does when we see people holding cardboard signs on the side of the road.
