Sunday Dec 09, 2018
Sunday Dec 09, 2018
Nick Theisen shared a midrash he wrote from the perspective of the Christmas star. May it offer some perspective for you this holiday season.
This midrash is from week 3 of our 2018 pre-Christmas series Do You Hear What I Hear.

Do You Hear What I Hear? Perfectly Imperfect
Sunday Dec 02, 2018
Sunday Dec 02, 2018
“Were you born in a barn?” is a classic insult for a person’s foibles. Jesus was born in a barn, a stable anyway, or so the story goes. The point? A stable is hardly the place for anyone’s birth, certainly not someone of Jesus’ importance. Yet, could it have been any different? Maybe the stable was a statement to the world of what it really takes for us to do what we have to do.

Do You Hear What I Hear? Took the Risk
Sunday Nov 25, 2018
Sunday Nov 25, 2018
Joseph told the story about that first Christmas night differently than anyone else. He didn’t hear, see or experience the same thing anyone else did and we could imagine the turning point of his story to be in the words “I took a risk.” We all take risks. The Christmas story of God being born into this world is about more than Jesus’ birth (a significant risk!) it is about the risks we all take for life. Life, change, growth are born of risk. Let’s hear more stories of risk. What is yours?

Thanksgiving Stress and an "Attitude of Gratitude"
Tuesday Nov 20, 2018
Tuesday Nov 20, 2018
Yes, we want to vomit when we hear that...and yet, there's something true in the triteness. Thanksgiving is about gratitude after all. But if you're asking, "But how am I actually going to make it through the holidays?" then this one's for you. Melissa, Greg, and Chris talk about building a cycle of gratitude that doesn't fix anything, but does start to transform us.

USED and Complicated!
Sunday Nov 18, 2018
Sunday Nov 18, 2018
Ever notice that everyone isn’t like you in the way they try to make a difference in the world? Yeah, it’s true. And it’s a good thing. You are shaped individually in a way that balances out who we are collectively. That gives us the power of diversity and the challenge of tolerating it. How are you wired? Are you a ‘march on the capitol’ or a ‘be a good neighbor’ person? Are you somewhere in between? Wrestling with this is key to operating as a team instead of a tribe, and might come in handy dealing with that relative over your Thanksgiving family time.

Scraps: the Beautiful Challenge of Sharing Your Mission
Tuesday Nov 13, 2018
Tuesday Nov 13, 2018
The things that doggedly call to us, that we can't get over, that we have vast energy for; our missions can challenge us in lots of ways, but another challenge comes when we share it with people who hold us to the vision that we've been given. Listen as Melissa Lock and Scott Schluter talk with Chris Tripolino about how this got really real for them over the summer.
Scott is a part of the Fabric community and he and Melissa mention an organization that they've gotten involved with called Better Angels. Learn more about how they are working to bridge the gaps in our political discourse here.
