CareIQ: Practice When It’s Easy
Monday Mar 02, 2020
Monday Mar 02, 2020
Knowing how to support and be supported in the stressful times of life is hard enough. Being able to do it is even harder! Everything is so real and complicated. That’s why we practice when it’s easy; so we can have the skills we need when it’s not. In this episode, Verlyn Hemmen joins Chris Lillehei and Melissa Lock to help us try out our Care IQ tools and think through what works and why.

Sunday Feb 23, 2020
Sunday Feb 23, 2020
How is your mental health? The fact is everyone’s is a work in progress. It varies according to your stress and experiences like every other aspect of your life. When the going gets particularly tough and someone’s mental health prevents them from carrying on normally… special care is needed. Most of us aren’t mental health professionals but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a role. In this episode, Greg Meyer helps us explore where CareIQ meets Mental Health.
See the printable list of tools that Greg mentions here. Find other related resources, including the outline for this message, on our website. Also watch for our regular "scraps" podcasts where we talk through other ideas and parts of the message that ended up on the cutting room floor.

CareIQ: It's (Not) About You
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
We are all care-givers and care-receivers. It makes sense that CareIQ would be about the person being cared for, but the truth is, either way, CareIQ starts with you. You don’t need all your $#!+ figured out, but you become more available and useful as you discover more of your tendencies and capacities. Thanks to Chris Lillehei of Fabric and chaplain at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital for leading this conversation.

CareIQ Review
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
When someone you care about is having a tough time it can be tough to know what to do, and much of life is a lot harder than ‘a tough time.’ Unfortunately caring isn’t enough. It takes learning and experience to be the help you want to be. On March 12 we reviewed what we are learning about CareIQ. No, we’ll never chase all the problems away or find a fix for all the unfixable things life brings us, but we can build our capacity together. Make a point of being here and connect with GroupLife to take it deeper and make it real.

Sunday Oct 30, 2016
Sunday Oct 30, 2016
Life happens and crises come no matter what you do or who you are. You won’t stop that, but… you can build care strength and resilience into your life and relationships. Melissa Lock will join Greg Meyer, and Katy Lesiak will field your text questions, as we explore the proactive side of your CareIQ. Why wait for the crisis? There are steps we can take as a community and individuals to help us be better caregivers and receivers and that will help plant the seeds of healthy care in the world.
More resources can be found at www.jacobs-well.net/leftovers, including the outline to this message on the back of the Sunday Paper and the GroupLife discussion guide.

CareIQ 3: Practice Makes...Experience 2016.10.23
Monday Oct 24, 2016
Monday Oct 24, 2016
Jacob’s Well-er Chris Lillehei is a hospital chaplain dealing with people everyday in situations that most of us dread ever having to be in. And he likes it! When you give up on fixing everyone’s problems, and learn how to be with people without riding the roller coaster of their emotions you find that you can make a difference. Someone needs to, after all, people are hurting. Chris and his wife Jenny, a mental health professional, helped us practice using our toolboxes this past week. Practice doesn’t make perfect, but it does put some experience under our belts.
