Conversations that Matter 2: Curating Safe Spaces 06.26.2016
Monday Jun 27, 2016
Monday Jun 27, 2016
Laura Schmidt and Mike Rusert are here to have an important conversation about what it means to curate safe spaces for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, especially in the wake of the mass shooting that took place in Orlando on June 12. Night clubs, such as Pulse, provide safety, community, and sanctuary for many members of the LGBTQ community, while churches have historically failed to meet those needs. We will lead a conversation on ways in which we as “people who don’t like church” can be better allies to our LGBTQ friends and family.

June 12: Local (at Minnehaha Falls)- An important part of being church for us is that where we are church together should reflect who we are as church together; maybe that’s why being at Minnehaha Falls feels like such a great place to be church. There’s more to being local as Jacob’s Well, though. It also means that what grows here, should be used here. Let’s take a look at what it means to escape the otherworldliness of church and keep our message and purpose local to our lives and our community.
